Volunteers from Elves are doing their part in cleaning up the streets. This year we have joined The Capital City Clean Up to help the environment and “put litter in its place!”

The Edmonton Optimist Club of Beverly for providing the means to purchase specialized equipment and furniture for the recreation area at the Elves Adult & Youth Centre. Equipment is incredibly important as it is adapted and specialized for our students and clients.

Elves Special Needs Society truly appreciates the dedication of time, whether it encompasses reading stories to our children for Reading Week, the contribution of grants or the commitment of donations to our various fundraising events, all of which significantly impact the ongoing advancement of our Society.  Elves Special Needs Society will strive to develop new strategies for reaching out to families and corporations for the participation in and funding of future projects which prove to be interesting and challenging, not to mention rewarding.

FASD RESPITE CARE PROGRAM
Elves Special Needs Society and the Kids Kottage Foundation are nonprofit agencies which have formed a cooperative association to set up a respite after school project to support families with children between the ages of three (3) and eight (8) years of age, affected with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).
 
A study conducted in March 2003 identified close to 1,000 families in despair who require some reliefin the caregiving of their children.  This program is supervised under the "umbrella" of Elves Special Needs Society as a pilot project.  The primary funding sources are provided by Kids Kottage, McDaniel Family Foundation, The Minerva Foundatin and Alberta for Child, Family and Community Research (ACCFCR) and a grant from the Community Initiatives Program under the Alberta Gaming Commission applied for by Elves Special Needs Society.
 
Kids Kottage, is an organization with expertise in providing respite to families in need.  Elves Special Needs Society will operate the program and be fiscally responsible for the operation of the program to be held at Elves Schild Development Centre, 10825 - 142 Street, Edmonton.  The Alberta Centre for Child, Family and Community Research (ACCFCR) will conduct a study to find out the impact of the respite on the parents and child.
 
This program operates for ten (10) months September through to the end of June, two evenings Tuesday and Thursday 3:30 to 7:30 pm and Saturdays from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. 
 
The Family Respite Care Program has 2 Program Coordinator and Program Assistants.  All staff hired for the Family Respite Program adhere to the Policies and Procedures as set out by Elves Special Needs Society.
